Unravel the world of contemporary textile art in this hands-on Thursday afternoon series at Elaine Foster-Gandey Art. Each week in June, we’ll dive into the work of a different innovative textile artist, using their style and techniques as a springboard for creative exploration.

Over four inspiring sessions, we’ll experiment with:
– Layering and hand stitching
– Fabric printing and collage
– Monoprinting and mixed media techniques

Whether you're an experienced maker or a curious beginner, this series offers a relaxed, creative space to learn new processes, develop your style, and connect with the contemporary textile art scene.

1. Expressive Layers: Ink & Wax Resist Inspired by Njideka Akunyili Crosby (Nigeria/USA)

Techniques: Ink washes, wax resist, collage, and layering.

Materials: Wax crayons, ink, tissue paper, magazine cut-outs, acrylic mediums.

2. Textured Narratives: Stitching, Printing & Found Materials Inspired by Louise Bourgeois (France/USA)

Techniques: Fabric printing, hand-stitching, monoprinting.

Materials: Fabric scraps, thread, ink, paper, found objects.

3. Nature & Abstraction: Botanical Ink & Watermedia Inspired by Emma Kunz (Switzerland)

Techniques: Geometric abstraction, ink washes, watercolor resist, symmetry drawing.

Materials: Inks, watercolors, masking fluid, geometric tools.

4. Urban & Organic Marks: Collage & Ink Wash Inspired by Victoria Villasana (Mexico/UK)

Techniques: Freehand ink drawing, embroidery on paper, collage.

Materials: Black ink, embroidery thread, newspapers, old maps, glue.

Led by internationally recognized multimedia artist Elaine Foster-Gandey, whose career spans over 4 decades of creating and teaching art & textiles across the globe, this is a unique opportunity to learn from a seasoned professional in an inspiring, supportive environment.

Workshops start on Thursday 5th June, then weekly on June 12th, June 19th and June 26th (2-4pm)
