A large-scale cut-through embroidery exploring the expressive qualities of the human body through the simple forms of a hand and two feet. Layers of reclaimed fabric are revealed through carefully cut surfaces, exposing colour, texture and the history embedded within the textiles themselves.
Part of Elaine Foster-Gandey's ongoing exploration of the body as landscape, Hand and Feet celebrates the beauty of ordinary forms. The work invites viewers to consider the marks we leave behind and the stories carried within the body. The exposed layers of reclaimed textiles become a visual record of memory, identity and lived experience, with each cut revealing hidden histories beneath the surface.
