Join us for a morning of wonder with Ceramicist Nicky Stone making your own pocket shrine & Goddess.
You will be working with air dried clay to create something quite magical and completely one off. Nicky Stone will be exhibiting her work in the current Summer Exhibition at Elaine Foster-Gandey Art, so you will get to see the breadth of her work in this exhibition along with her work in the sculpture garden.
About the artist
Nicky Stone graduated from Falmouth College of Arts, Studio Ceramics in 2000 and had a busy practice which she gave up for a while to dedicate herself to a career in art therapy. The clay kept calling her back and during the lockdown years she started to commandeer the garden shed and dusted off her kiln for a new beginning.
The Bathers, Goddesses and Tall Figures celebrate her love of the sea, the earth and the wild. Her Winged Figures remember the stories of her grandfather who told her of his dreams that he could fly - they continue to meet in dreams of being under the sea.
‘Human beings have always needed rituals, making Shrines and Altars satisfies this for me. They are made gently from soft rolled slabs of porcelain clay and are tricksy to fire but I enjoy them so I keep making’. Nicky stone

Disabled access - the gallery is all on one level and the garden area is accessible with a slope down to the space. There are no disabled toilet facilities in the gallery, however the community centre on Pleyber Christ Way has a disabled toilet, just along from the gallery, a 5 min walk. Nearest Trainline is an 8 minute walk away.
Parking options at the community centre and along Quay Street or around the Town.
Lostwithiel has many lovely cafes and shops and after the workshop you may want to have a browse. We recommend Q street Cafe along the road on Queen Street and the Mess Hall on Fore Street and the Community centre cafe. Overnight stays at The great western are reasonably priced and the Royal Oak, plus numerous air b & b’s are worth researching, or if you are driving, Premier Inn in Bodmin is about a 10 min drive away.
